Three new QB coaches are formally hired by the Lions
Three new defensive coaches are formally hired by the Lions.
The Detroit Lions added three new coaches to complete their 2024 roster.
Terrell Williams and Deshea Townsend were already confirmed to be joining the squad. Townsend becomes the Lions’ coordinator of the defensive passing game and coach of the defensive backs. He played the identical positions for the Jacksonville Jaguars for the previous two seasons.
Although Williams was hired in January, his appointment as the coordinator of the defensive run game and defensive line coach is now formally acknowledged. The Tennessee Titans were home to the seasoned defensive line coach before. He was once the college position coach for Lions General Manager Brad Holmes.
It was previously unknown who had been hired as the third employee. Jim O’Neil is a new defensive assistant with the Lions. Since 2001, O’Neil has held several coaching positions; his most recent position was defensive coordinator at Northwestern. Although he has mostly worked with defensive backs, he did serve as the Cleveland Browns’ defensive coordinator for two seasons.
