Former referee discusses the decision of whether Cristian Romero should have been sent off in the Newcastle match.
Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher admitted to not liking Cristian Romero’s challenge on Callum Wilson, but argued that it did not immediately become a red card offence. Romero returned from a three-match suspension after receiving a red card for a challenge on Enzo Fernandez in the London derby. In his second game back, Romero risked being sent off again for a reckless challenge on Wilson in the 80th minute. Although referee Chris Kavanagh awarded Romero a yellow, pundits like Gary Neville, Jamie Redknapp, and Michael Dawson believe Romero was fortunate to avoid a red card.
