Mahomes has injured his own teammate Rashee Rice
Chiefs fans hold their breath as star WR’s status hangs in the balance before facing the Chargers
In a dramatic turn of events, Kansas City Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice left the field on a cart with a knee injury during the first quarter of Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers. This bizarre incident unfolded as both Rice and Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes pursued Chargers cornerback Kristian Fulton during an interception return
A shocking play
The Chiefs were already struggling, trailing 10-0, when the injury struck. On their second drive, Mahomes overthrew tight end Travis Kelce at midfield, leading to a 29-yard interception return by Fulton. Rice caught up to Fulton at the Chiefs’ 20-yard line and punched the ball loose, but in the process, Mahomes accidentally hit Rice’s legs while attempting to tackle Fulton.
While Chiefs center Creed Humphrey recovered the fumble, a video review revealed that Rice had been out of bounds when he forced the turnover, allowing the Chargers to retain possession.
