SO SAD: Longhorns ex player committed suicide due……

Wardell Mack, a four-star wide receiver, joins Texas

Officially, the one-time Gator pledge is now a Longhorn.

On Early Signing Day, four-star cornerback Wardell Mack officially joined head coach Steve Sarkisian’s squad. Mack was the first of two safety flips from the Florida Gators to the Texas Longhorns.

Mack joined the Longhorns later than expected, and they capitalized on their rise when the Gators were having trouble. Mack committed to Florida ahead of his senior season after making three official trips to the Longhorns, Gators, and Florida State Seminoles during the June visit period. Terry Joseph, the secondary coach for Texas who is mostly in charge of recruiting Louisiana, persisted until he was able to pull off the flip in November.

In high school, the 5’11, 170-pound defensive back from John Ehret was a versatile player who shown exceptional agility and technique. Mack played with the Patriots in a variety of positions, including wide receiver, quarterback, cornerback, and kick returner. He demonstrated exceptional ball handling and playmaking abilities at every turn.

Mack joins a very skilled crop of Longhorn defensive backs that included many players with positional flexibility, including Kobe Black, a four-star standout from Waco Connally. Mack should win a position on Texas special teams as a freshman and compete for a spot in the cornerback rotation among players like Malik Muhammad this season and Terrance Brooks last season, given his obvious skill set, rankings, and offer list.

Mack, a four-star recruit by all accounts, is ranked No. 14 at cornerback and No. 131 overall in the 247Sports Composite rankings.
