Kylian Mbappe penalty misery blamed on ‘trying to emulate Neymar’ – with Real Madrid superstar told he is ‘not skilled’ at spot-kicks

Kylian Mbappé’s recent penalty miss for Real Madrid during their Champions League match against Liverpool has sparked criticism, with some attributing the failure to overcomplicating his approach, allegedly influenced by Neymar’s flair. In the crucial second-half moment, Mbappé’s penalty was saved by Liverpool’s backup goalkeeper, Caoimhin Kelleher, preventing Real Madrid from equalizing. The miss compounded Madrid’s struggles in the match, which ended in a 2-0 defeat.

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti defended Mbappé, emphasizing the need to support the star player, who is currently experiencing a slump in form. Ancelotti highlighted that penalty misses are part of the game and stressed patience, labeling Mbappé as an extraordinary player who will eventually regain confidence.

Critics, however, pointed out Mbappé’s inconsistent penalty record and questioned whether his attempt to emulate Neymar’s signature style at spot-kicks is wise. This performance continues a challenging period for Mbappé at Real Madrid, where he has struggled to replicate his past Champions League success.
