Quarterback Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals has a clever suggestion to lengthen the NFL regular season schedule. The NFL recently changed its regular season schedule from 16 to 17 games, and the league is already considering increasing that to 18. “I think we’re good at 17 now,” Roger Goodell, the commissioner of the NFL, stated. “Listen, though—we’re examining our course of action. I do not enjoy the preseason. The truth is, any day I could substitute a regular-season game for a preseason one. That is merely selecting quality. That is not unreasonable if we reach 18 and 2.”
Burrow’s brilliant suggestion for a longer schedule Burrow believes that an additional bye week should be included as part of an extended schedule because of the additional wear and tear that players would experience if another regular season game is added to the calendar. Currently, teams are allowed one bye week per season; however, Burrow would want to see two bye weeks if an additional game is added. “18 games is definitely a big ask, that’s not easy,” Burrow stated. “Obviously, adding that extra game would be fantastic for money. However, I believe that if you’re going to play eighteen games, then including that bye week is pretty important for our bodies.
