The Browns are thus looking for a full-time offensive coordinator who can also call plays.

Jerrod Johnson is now one of their best prospects, and the Browns plan to meet him early this week (via Jeremy Fowler on Twitter.)

Johnson is now the quarterbacks coach for the Houston Texans, as Fowler notes in his tweet, but he wants to advance in the coaching ranks and become an offensive coordinator.

Former quarterback Johnson attended Texas A&M during his collegiate career before signing an undrafted free agent contract with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2010.

After that, he moved around the league, joining a number of practice teams but never getting into an NFL game.

But as an NFL coach, he’s had far more luck and has had a variety of jobs for several clubs, frequently rising through the ranks.

Johnson was the offensive quality control coach for the Indianapolis Colts and the assistant quarterbacks coach for the Minnesota Vikings before taking a job with the Texans.

Johnson would be among the league’s youngest offensive coordinators at the age of 35.

In addition to Johnson, the Browns have also spoken with offensive line coach Andy Dickerson of the Seattle Seahawks and are scheduled to speak with offensive coordinator Tim Kelly of the Tennessee Titans.
