A midfield swap is planned for the Cats’ star.
Tom Stewart, the recently re-signed star of the Geelong Cats, is expected to play more midfield minutes in 2024 as he attempts to improve his game.
Since his second year in the system, Stewart has been selected five times in a row for the All-Australian team, making him one of the competition’s best defenders this century.
One of the most potent defenders in the league, the experienced recruit is still trying to improve and may even move up the field the next season.
This season, Stewart has helped the Cats’ undermanned engine room by filling in at midfield four times. The 30-year-old is eager to get another taste of playing in the middle of the field.

According to Stewart, “I think I can get a lot more flexible in my role,” she told reporters.
“After playing some midfield minutes the previous season, I’m going to improve my game because of that kind of stuff.
“To be able to up around the ball and win the ball at the source and help the forward half of the ground is something that is new to me, but I’m really open to whatever the club needs me to do and the role I’m sort of seen to fit.”
The return of experienced onballer Cam Guthrie, who was injured and only played in six games in 2023, is expected to boost Geelong’s midfield unit.
The position of premier With Cat back, Geelong will have a formidable midfield group that includes captain Patrick Dangerfield, utility Mark Blicavs, hard-nut Tom Atkins, and up-and-coming duo Max Holmes and Tanner Bruhn.
