Former Broncos player faces decision in sexual assault case

Teui “TC” Robati, a former NRL player, must determine how to react to a sexual assault case after negotiations with prosecutors failed.

Robati, who was cut by the Brisbane Broncos in the previous season, is charged with attacking a female customer on December 21, 2022, at a pub in Brisbane.

Robati and his attorney were not present at the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday, when the matter was scheduled to be mentioned.

Senior Constable Michael Colclough, the police prosecutor, informed the court that Robati’s mediation was not going to proceed.

Inquiring as to whether the case would proceed as a summary prosecution or as an indictable one—the latter being more severe and needing a higher court—Magistrate Andrew Moloney

“It depends whether he pleads guilty or not,” Colclough answered.

Robati’s attorney would get notification, according to Mr. Moloney, and the case would be postponed until February 14 when he would be released on bond.

Next month, Robati may enter a plea, or the matter may proceed to a committal procedure to see whether there are adequate reasons.

After playing for the Maori All Stars, he had just seven top-grade games in 2022, a year in which his form was not as good.

He was sacked by the Broncos in February 2023 before the season kick-off.
