The Lions are considering a potential trade for a former Defensive Player of the Year.
The Detroit Lions could consider trading a 2025 fourth-round pick to the Los Angeles Chargers for edge-rusher Khalil Mack, the 2016 NFL Defensive Player of the Year. With the Lions having the seventh most salary cap space ($58.61M) in the league, they could potentially push for a veteran player like Mack, who has been successful in adding young talent through the draft.
Mack, a former No. 5 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, could be a valuable asset for Detroit, especially after a career-high 17 sacks and 74 tackles. However, the Lions would have to pay $23.25M of his $38.51M salary in 2024, leaving Detroit with room for free agency and signing its 2024 draft class. The main risk is the type of player the Lions receive.
