The Cincinnati Bengals acquired a quality defense.

The Athletic proposes a shocking Bengals free agent addition.
Regarding the Bengals adding another wide receiver to an already packed room, what are your thoughts?
With Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase as their two genuine No. 1 wide receivers, the Cincinnati Bengals are among the select few teams with this combination.
Trenton Irwin is one of theirs; he always seems to be at the right place at the right time. They have two excellent second-year wide receivers in Andrei Iosivas (who caught four touchdowns in his rookie year) and Charlie Jones. The Bengals then selected Jermaine Burton, a gifted wide receiver from Alabama, in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Many people think Burton would have been selected sooner if he hadn’t had off-field problems. It’s safe to argue that the Bengals still have one of the top wide receiver rooms in the NFL, despite Tyler Boyd leaving for the Titans in free agency.
The Athletic’s Randy Mueller continues to believe that the Bengals might pursue free agent Hunter Renfrow to bolster their wide receiver depth and help offset Boyd’s slot productivity.
“Having demonstrated excellent quickness to break free from tight coverage and a feel for settling into zones and being available when QBs are forced to extend plays, Renfrow is still a quality option in the slot,” he wrote. “It has just been two seasons since he had 103 catches. The turmoil and timing of the front office/coaching changes with the Raiders killed any notion of moving him, even though I had felt he may be a trade-deadline target the previous season. “The Bengals lost Tyler Boyd, who had been a mainstay in the slot for a few years, and Renfrow is the only other option with track record of success. He might be an easy choice to make.
Although the Bengals are losing crucial experience in the slot, their offense is unaffected. It will actually, in my opinion, open up the Bengals’ offense. Boyd can still make a significant contribution as a slot receiver, but at this stage of his career, he isn’t ready to play on the outside.
The Bengals were obliged to keep Chase and Higgins on the outside as a result. The Bengals can now transfer their most lethal weapon, Chase, to any position on the field by replacing their WR3 with Boyd and having not one, not two, but three quality players who can play on the outside. Although it is true that the Bengals lost experience playing in the slot, it’s also possible that they have opened up whole new playbook chapters. It’s a good idea to add Renfrow if Boyd is to be replaced. However, Boyd doesn’t need to be replaced by the Bengals. Rather, they ought to concentrate on finding ways to deliver the ball in space as frequently as possible to one of the NFL’s most explosive athletes.
