Cincinnati — After the Bengals applied the franchise tag to wide receiver Tee Higgins last month, the player made an official trade request. The 25-year-old will probably have to play on a one-year, $21.7 million contract, but he hopes to sign a long-term agreement with the Bengals or with another team this offseason. David Mulugheta, Higgins’ agent, and the Bengals have until July 15 to decide whether to extend.

Higgins will probably remain in Cincinnati this season for another reason—the team hasn’t indicated that it would be interested in dealing him. The former second-round pick is just one of two franchise-tagged players whose organizations have not offered them a long-term deal. Extensions have been approved by seven of the nine tagged players. Higgins and Bucs safety Antoine Winfield Jr. are the two veterans who haven’t reached a long-term agreement.
