**MLB REPORT: Rockies vs. Tigers Game Postponed Due to Poor Air Quality from Wildfire Smoke**
Major League Baseball has announced that the game between the Colorado Rockies and the Detroit Tigers, scheduled to be played tonight at Coors Field in Denver, has been postponed due to deteriorating air quality caused by smoke from nearby wildfires in the Rocky Mountain region. The decision was made in coordination with league officials, local health authorities, and team representatives after air quality readings reached levels deemed unsafe for athletes, fans, and staff.
The wildfires, which have been burning in parts of western Colorado and nearby states, sent thick plumes of smoke drifting over the Denver metro area throughout the day. By late afternoon, the Air Quality Index (AQI) had soared past 200 in some parts of the city, classified as “very unhealthy” by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Medical experts and team trainers expressed concern about the health risks of playing under such conditions, especially for individuals with respiratory sensitivities.
“Player safety is always our top priority,” said an MLB spokesperson. “Given the current air quality and ongoing concerns from medical professionals, the decision to postpone tonight’s game was made out of an abundance of caution.”
Fans had already begun entering the stadium when the announcement was made. The Rockies organization quickly assured attendees that tickets for the postponed game would be honored on the rescheduled date, which has yet to be announced but is expected to be part of a future doubleheader.
Players and coaching staff from both teams supported the decision, acknowledging the impact wildfire smoke can have on lung function and performance. Rockies outfielder Charlie Blackmon stated, “As much as we want to play, health has to come first—for us, the fans, and everyone working at the park.”
This marks the second time in recent seasons that a Rockies home game has been impacted by wildfire smoke, underscoring the growing influence of environmental conditions on outdoor sporting events.
MLB is closely monitoring the situation and will determine the feasibility of tomorrow’s scheduled game depending on how the air quality develops overnight.

Stay tuned for further updates on the rescheduling and ongoing air quality assessments in the Denver area.
